For many years hiking trails in the East Bay and Marin I tended to return same spots time and again, but with the Peaks project I began to systematically explore every single mountain and hill in the Bay Area. Working from several comprehensive lists I started a new and different hike every day. The long ridgeline and many coastal peak of San Mateo was a whole new area to discover and did not disappoint. This golden grassy path leads to the top of Borel Hill in the Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve, the second highest peak in the county after Long Ridge. It’s a short and easy walk from Skyline Boulevard, with great views of the bay and towards the coast.
And there’s over 50 other peaks in the county to discover, every one new, every one different.
