A January outing led me deep into the Diablo Range near the town of Hollister south of San Jose. The hills are all green now. The rocky summit of San Joaquin Peak was an easy 5 mile hike across the rolling hills, followed by a short class 2 scramble. Somehow the contrast between the soft grassy grazing lands an the rough and ancient rock formations is always surprise, a reminder, perhaps, that beneath the tranquil surface, active geological forces are still moving and reshaping California.
