This is from Cone Peak in Big Sur which rises to over 5000′ just one mile from the ocean. The road to the trailhead had been closed a year and a half due to fire then storm damage, so when I saw in May that it had reopened I quickly planned a day trip. It’s an easy hike, starting from the crest of the coast range and following a well-groomed trail which heads along the crest of the Coast Range, then up to the summit from the west. Wildflowers beneath, clouds over the ocean, and perfect, not to warm weather, made it a long hike well worth the wait.
